5th Graders explore Timponogas!

I had the honor of joining the 5th graders on their field trip to Timponogas caves! I had never been there before so I jumped all over the opportunity. It was extra fun to be with Maddie and her friends/classmates.

Maddie and Breanna waiting for their turn to hit the trail.

The hike was beautiful! She liked walking through the tunnels.

There were a few parts of the trail that made her a little nervous. This is her "scared" face as she notices the sign with the falling person. Yikes! She is a little scared of heights as is!

She cracked me up! She was quick to turn her head the other way when there was a steep drop off the other side.

It was a beautiful setting! I loved it!

At the top of the trail we meet our cave guide.

Now into the cave......Check out these stalactites!

This large stalactite is called "The Heart of Timpanogas." It is shaped like a heart and goes along with the legend of the Indian Princess and her True Love. Their two hearts were laid to rest together in this spot.

More cave exploring....

The caves were amazing. Such interesting formations....

This is a stalactite/stalagmite formation that has only one inch to go until it joins together to form a column. It will take 200 years for this to happen.
1 inch of growth = 200 years!

Outside the cave -- a group shot with our guide.

The hike back down was just as beautiful as the way up. The canyon was gorgeous with the valley in the background.
So, after our hike we had lunch and then loaded the bus for our 2 hour ride home! Yipee!
Ya' gotta love those bus rides :)
It was such a fun day and I loved spending time with Maddie. I have to soak up every possible moment I can with her....she is growing up so quickly.
