Madison gets to participate in a "Jr. Genius" project at school. She has chosen "ROCKS" as her topic! She is always collecting, polishing, and admiring rocks. So, we thought this would be a fun time to actually learn something about rocks! Today was such a bright and sunny day that we decided to head out on the 4-wheelers for a Rock Hunt. Andy and I took a Geology class in college that we both loved. It was all coming back to us.... we felt like real scientists out gathering rock samples to study. Check out this example of sedimentary (layered) rock!
Maddie found a perfect resting place --
We started calling Alex "Lizard Boy." He was climbing and jumping all over the place.
"Lizard Boy" climbing up through some rocks-
Go "Lizard Boy!"
Right as we were leaving Alex was trying to climb back down to the 4-wheelers - he slipped and slid on his bum down this little space between rocks. Well, he thought that was awesome so both him and Madison went back up to do it again! The Rock Slide!

After Devil's Ribs we rode the wheeler's around the side hills of Manti. It was beautiful and it felt so good to be outside in the fresh air. If you look close you can see the Temple in the background of this picture.
Our lesson in Geology was a success! We collected many rock samples, did some hiking, drove through big mud puddles, and enjoyed a bird's eye view of the valley. ROCK ON!

What a great mom you are!! That looks like it was such a fun day!! I love the rock slide!!
Did little Lane have much fun? lol he looks like he was ready to get home and hit the pillow. Madi I did one of my jr. gen projects on rocks also. A good place to visit if its not already to late is Snow college and the library. Snow college actually gave me some samples of cool rocks that I got to keep. Check it out!

Great photos. I am so glad you had fun at Devil's Ribs. It was one of my favorite places when I was a kid back in the 1950s. I spent countless hours up there with Jim Petersen, Ken Wanlass, Gary Cox, Brent Cox, and many others. Next time you go, I would like to go with you. I know I could show you some secrete places.
Rock on......... voo
